# The 2 most needed electronics that we can't live without in current society are: 1. PHONE 2. COMPUTER Arguably, you can live without either/any of them, but why would we choose that ? The most obvious reasons for these 2 electronics are: # PHONE (needed for portability) - communication - notifications (as in SMS) - other verification (SMS/call), kind of like an ID for many services - if it's a smartphone, uses are much more: camera, maps, notes, multimedia - if it's a smartphone and also you pay for internet for outside use: video calls, browsing, streaming, shopping For a minimalist you don't need an expensive smartphone and internet plan. A dumb phone for the main features (calls,SMS on a prepaid plan) would be enough. Alternatively, an older smartphone without data plan works. # COMPUTER (needed for productivity) - larger screen for work - faster (usually external) keyboard for typing - more processing power for things like video editing (for who's into that) - more storage space - more flexibility in communication, access to cloud spaces, software to use. Again, for a productive minimalist you don't need the newest computer setup. An older laptop with external keyboard/monitor can work great. Alternatively, minicomputers are space saving and compact if you use external monitor/keyboard and don't travel. P.S. is there a place for a tablet? = not for a minimalist P.S.2 is there a need for a e-ink ebook reader? = No, only motivation would be for that: if you don't have access to battery/power to recharge a laptop/phone and the screen time would consume it quickly. Or if you want to read in the sun where the screen glare on a phone/laptop makes it harder.
