Making money by trading your skills still requires you to put in the time. But you can only do the effort if you know how, if you are qualified, if you can show results. Then you will get paid.
Example: engineer, sales agent, doctor, lawyer, teacher, accountant, manager, pilot.

It usually requires intensive education, degrees, proven experience, proven skills, passion and motivation. To get a job like this sometimes you should prove that you have enough passion that you would accept the job even without pay (co-op programs, apprenticeships, volunteer).

If you are after a career that you can identify with, if you want to say I'm a doctor� or whatever and feel proud about it, then this is for you no matter what is the earning possibilities. You are smart and you should prove it to the world through your job position.

Pros:

    -fulfilling, the job is your passion, at least when you chose it, not when somebody else did, like your parents
    -possibilities to grow in your field, become more experienced and skilled
    -opportunities to climb the corporate ladder�, to be promoted
    -show pride, you have letters before/after your name

Cons:

    -it often requires years of education and experience
    -sometimes is hard to adapt the skills to a specific job
    -it's very active method, apart from vacations, if you stopped working, the money stopped coming
    -it is expected from you to know everything in that field, and sometimes you are not even allowed to have an opinion about other fields
    -it could be hard to switch fields if your profession is not in demand anymore
