# What are the minimal and maximal possessions based on categories of needs ## NEEDS 1. Shelter 2. Water & Food 3. Money 4. Energy & Resources SHELTER ------------------- minimum: the clothes on your person maximum: a fully equipped house with closets, bathroom, kitchen, etc. WATER & FOOD ------------------- minimum: daily calories only occasionally met (lots of fasting days) maximum: 5 meals a day including snacks (body can't take any more) MONEY ------------------- minimum: very little to cover food that can't be freely obtained maximum: enough to cover shelter expenses, food and energy and other possible expenses (travel) ENERGY & RESOURCES ------------------- minimum: 0 (no energy needed and resources if you have minimum for above) maximum: self generating the electrical power you need and have other resources on hand Q1. What are the Energy & Resources used: - Energy can be: electricity, natural gas, wood, coal - Resources: tools to obtain, maintain, procure or produce the above needs. These can be: phone or computer, gardening tools, solar panels, skills, stored goods(books, sawing kit, nails, toiletries, kitchen utensils, etc) * Normally these are not actually needs, but wants. Life is actually improved if you have access to at least some of these. Q2. Why minimum money is not 0 ? - It actually can be 0 money needed, but most likely you need money to supplement anything you need that can't be obtained otherwise. Making your own clothes is possible, but almost always not preferable. Finding your own food (foraging?) is similar. Imagine growing your food...farmland, taxes...yes, money needed. And you need money for the number 4 - Energy and Resources since those exist and you need to tap into them somehow. Here is an example of a person that lives with minimum of everything: 1. Shelter: a few pieces of clothing, towel, toiletry kit in a backpack (sleeps outdoor-homeless, or hotels) 2. Water & Food: to be obtained daily by foraging and buying. (wild plants/fruits picking, fishing, hunting or restaurants) 3. Money: To be obtained on the go, or passively and used as needed for food. (gigs, temp jobs), (investors out there?) 4. Energy & Resources: Occasionally recharging phone/laptop battery needed to obtain money. (1 or 2 electronics that give access to banking and business opportunities) The not so obvious conclusions: -You don't need much to survive, -it's up to you what you do with your life, -the minimum survival is not hard to meet, so never be desperate. #minimalism
