Just before writing reasons for liking Windows I have to say that I liked MS-DOS more: - MS-DOS had a finite set of commands and manageable directories. - it had clear startup configuration files easily customizable - it had a multitude of tools to work with files, source codes - it even allowed pseudo-multitasking operations aka resident programs to run at the same time - best tool invented for it was Dos Navigator which acted like an OS on top featuring text based extra tools like calculator, terminal emulator, modem dialer, text spreadsheet, text editor, text graphic editors (unicode characters), multi files opened and multi switching and more - it could enable graphic mode without special drivers, or complicated GUI: i.e. picture viewing, games - lots of games - later it could run even MS-Windows on top opening possibilities to more functions: i.e. multi tasking # Top reasons why I like Windows and cons - it can still run DOS in a window that work as before also with some improvements (like networking) - ability to multitask properly (dahhh) - compatibility of apps with almost all previous versions, sometimes even with DOS programs - availability of HW drivers for any peripherals, devices - popular - companies prefer it due to large MS suite of business apps: i.e. Office, now cloud stuff - little (or big) programs created for every need (mostly for a price) # cons - not open source - the most bloated OS out there, its size increasing by the second when is on - not private - no total control for the user - you need to pay a fee for a license to use it, and then still is not yours to modify and experiment - some backdoor reported - forces secureboot on some computers which make it harder to install other OS - automatic updates are very annoying - ads and tracking built in - it's still crashing and is breakable - prone to malware - high demand for HW resources - takes a lot of space to install it - takes a lot of memory to run it I don't like what Windows has become, not recommending it for much. Maybe use it when you have no other choice.
